Information here is updated to include the findings in the Oct. 12 entry: California Companies Moving Away or Shifting Work Out Reaches New High: 158 (for 2010 alone).
The entries contain codes in parenthesis after each listed company. Following are what the codes mean and how many there are for the consolidated period Jan. 1, 2009 through Oct. 12, 2010.
| Code | Meaning | No. of Events |
| (CLO) | Closure, full or partial (sometimes difficult to discern) | 43 |
| (CD-OSG) | Capital Directed to Out-of-State Growth for a facility that in the past would have been built in California | 73 |
| (CP) | Cancelled Plan to Move to California | 1 |
| (RELO-OS) | Out-of-State Relocation | 109 |
| (RELO-OST) | Out-of-State Relocation Threatened | 4 |
The categorizations for the period total 230 and is higher than the total number of known “events.” That is because an event can fall into several categories – e.g., a plant closes and work is sent to two other states.
Don’t read too much into these numbers. The purpose here is to give the reader a sense of what is happening. The most valuable information is found in Part I and the Oct. 12, 2010 update, which provides descriptions and context for the events.
